Despite the games combined having sold only around 20% of Street Fighter’s total, Marvel vs. Capcom remains one of the most influential fighting games our there — including providing inspiration for multiple scenes in X-Men ’97’s big return.

That goes for fan animation too with the talented D.M. Galloway recently dropping a new stop motion MvC short pitting Wolverine against Zangief.

Things start out with the fighters’ dynamic pre-battle poses and the mutant whipping out his claws, and then the action quickly kicks into high gear.

Gief and Wolverine haven’t appeared in a game together for almost 25 years, but they apparently have some beef to settle with the grappler immediately going for a sweep.

The mashing menace dodges and jumps on his back, however, and begins digging his claws in before the Russian cyclone gets ahold of him and takes him for a ride on the Spinning Pile Driver that’s nicely animated.

Zangief tries going for his trusty Double Lariat, but like in Street Fighter 6, it can’t hit behind him apparently.

While he could block a sword with his pecs in Street Fighter 5’s story, Gief’s back can’t withstand adamantium with the world warrior collapsing in two pieces.

Seeing this does make us wish we had a new MvC that officially included both of these icons, but that doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon.

At least, the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite community recently undertook the task of completely overhauling the game’s graphics to make them more appealing with progress looking very promising thus far.

We’ve also previously featured some of D.M. Galloway’s other impressive stop motion fighting game animations too including Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion taking on Spongebob Squarepants as well as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Michael Jackson, Kevin McCallister and more fun shorts.
