A big time Street Fighter fan has created a bit of a gift for the community as Lucas E. Baia has created a chart depicting every roster from every mainline Street Fighter game.
It’s actually a little more detailed than that, however, as Baia has gone the extra few miles to both denote when in a game’s lifecycle a given roster member was added as well as whether each character is debuting or returning.
Let’s take the Street Fighter 2 example as this is a game that’s been updated many times over the last 30 years, and as recently as in 2017 with the Nintendo Switch’s Ultra Street Fighter 2.
The chart shows the original eight World Warriors with both Ryu and Ken highlighted in a blue border because they had both appeared previously in Street Fighter 1. The other six have yellow borders to show this was their first playable appearance.
The Champion Edition update that rolled out a year later in 1992 made the four boss characters playable, and thus we see M. Bison, Sagat, Vega, and Balrog added as the next batch.
The New Challengers came around a year after that and thus Cammy, Fei-Long, T-Hawk, and Dee Jay are the next four we see. Secret boss Akuma made his playable debut in 1994’s Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, so he gets his own spot on the chart here, and then Violent Ken and Evil Ryu were finally added in the aforementioned Ultra update.
Every game gets this treatment on the easy to process chart, and this will surely be a tool many will want to bookmark for quick reference of SF history. This is great as it shows us what each update to each game brought with it in terms of additional characters as well as franchise firsts.
