By Rekpene Uket, CRS-MOI Officer Reporting from Ministry of Aviation.

The Cross River State Commissioner for Aviation, Rt. Hon. Dr. Jake Otu Enyia has charged residents of Ukambi community in Obudu Local Government Area, one of the host communities of the Obudu International Airport project; to key into the project by giving the State Government the necessary support to enable her actualise the project.

Dr. Enyia gave the charge recently at the project site in Obudu while supervising preliminary works on the project site which include; site clearing and leveling of the top soil.

The Aviation Commissioner averred that when the project kicks off in ernest, it will offer employment opportunities to the teeming youths of the community as well as promote economic development , adding that the State Governor,Sir Ben Ayade is desirous of completing the project as soon as possible

This, he pointed out was the rationale behind the deployment of additional equipment to enhance the speed of work on site.

Dr.Enyia opined that the State Government has already advertised for submission of bids for the procurement of a contractor for the construction of the Obudu International Airport, emphasizing that the opening of bids was suspended following the global lockdown occasioned by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandermic.

He assured that the bids would be opened soon as COVID-19 pandermic is put under control  and the most preferred bidder would emerge based on due process. The Contractor would then be mobilised to site to carry on with the job.

He therefore advised that all illegal structures on the site be demolished as the Governor would soon be coming to inspect the progress of work done so far.

Responding on behalf of the host community, the Chairman,  Comrade Ignatius Atsu appreciated  the State Governor, Sir Ben Ayade for choosing Ukambi as one of the host communities for the Airport project and promised that the community will give the necessary support to government in order to ensure that the project is successful.
