Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang edged out four times winner, Yaya Toure to win the African Footballer of the Year awards hosted last night in Abuja, Nigeria.

The long run of Ivorian Yaya Toure came to an haul when Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was announced winner with 7 points ahead of the former while Ghanian André Ayew came 3rd with 112 points. The 23-year-old pulled out 143 that same night to be crowned the winner of the most prestigious award in football in Africa.

The recipient of the award is decided by national team coaches and technical directors in Africa – with Yaya and Samuel Eto’o the most-honoured individuals with four titles each.

He becomes the first player from the German league to win the award having finished as runner-up in the 2014 edition staged in Lagos. The Borussia Dortmund striker ends speculations of him leaving the club this January to join suspected Premier League Giants, Arsenal FC. He said in the arena after receiving the awards that he is going nowhere.
