Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have entered the bidding war for one former Manchester United defender.
United boss Ruben Amorim would prefer to see the ex-Red Devil return to Old Trafford especially with all that the club has suffered this season.
Having already started the season with a string of disappointing performances, the Portuguese manager is constantly on the lookout to bolster his squad with new talents.
And now, Amorim will have Los Colchoneros to fend off as he and his club look to see the return of a star ex-Devil to Old Trafford.
According to Portuguese outlet Ojogo, Atletico have named Álvaro Carreras as their next target ahead of the summer transfer window, saying “[Manchester United] could bring the full-back back to Old Trafford for 20 million euros [but] Atlético de Madrid’s managers will go all out for the player.”
This comes at a time when United’s defence is in desperate need of reinforcements, with Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw still unavailable with long-term injuries.
During Carreras’ time with United, before transferring to S.L. Benefica in 2024, he was named Manchester United’s U23 Player of the Year.
More recently, Carreras’ excellent performance for Atletico led to him receiving the Cosme Damião Award for revelation of the year.
And now, with three goals already under his belt for The Eagles, the 22 year-old’s market value is estimated at €18M.
However, with him now drawing attention from the likes of Atletico, the asking price from Benefica for the Spanish defender may be higher.
And so it remains to be seen with which of the big names in European football Carreras will decide to continue his playing career.
