Athletes qualify for cross country state meet

Covington County will be well represented with 39 athletes qualifying for the AHSAA 2024 State Cross Country Championship Meet on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Museum in Moulton.
A total of 19 athletes from Andalusia will compete in Class 5A followed by 17 athletes from Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level in Class 1A-2A. Straughn will send three athletes to compete in Class 4A.
Girls and boys participating in the state championship meet are as follows:
- Andalusia – Will Anderson, Braxton Bozeman, Farley Brannon, Julia Cotter, Willow Fite, Alyssa Garland, Forest Hobson, Raygan Jackson, Kyleigh Martin, Emmett Massey, Mason Mullins, Andy Shelander, Keaton Spears, Cade Taylor, Andre Thomas, Serena Walker, Xsiah Walker, Ella Ward, and Abigail Wise
- Florala – Nathanial Ainsworth, Dalton Devenney, Jameson Jackson, Jay Lee, Uriah Mathews, Guy Sutton, Markeith Thrash, and Seth Watson
- Pleasant Home – Jude Bradley, Andrew Clark, Jackson Hawkins, Jonah Hawkins, Nathaniel Hobbs, Hyram Josey, and Pressley Kelley
- Red Level – Bella Griffin and Luke Hodges
- Straughn – Kaitlyn Bybee, Quinn Dixon, and Caroline Soesbe
Class 4A girls will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by class 4A boys at 9:30 a.m. Awards for class 4A will be at 10:15 a.m.
Class 5A girls will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by classes 1A and 2A boys at 10:50 a.m. Class 5A boys will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by classes 1A and 2A girls at 11:50 a.m. Awards for classes 1A, 2A, and 5A will be at 12:50 p.m.
According to the AHSAA, teams may make substitutions 30 minutes prior to the first race.
Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner-up in each classification. Medals for the first 15 places in each classification will also be given out.
Tickets must be purchased online through GoFan. The AHSAA has set admission at $14 per person.
