Aston Villa is exploring the opportunity to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan, a move that would put them in direct competition with Manchester United for the player’s signature, reports FC Inter News.
The Premier League club has reportedly made preliminary contact with the player’s representatives to gauge the feasibility of a transfer.
Inter Milan, while engaged in strategic planning for their squad, has yet to reach a contractual agreement with Dumfries, whose current contract is set to expire in 2025. A significant divergence in expectations, exacerbated by the termination of Italy’s Growth Decree tax relief scheme, has halted conversations between the club and Dumfries’ agency, Wasserman.
With the player approaching the last year of his contract, Inter Milan appears poised to sell him this summer, anticipating initiating a bidding war for his services.
Previously, Bayern Munich was mentioned as potential destinations. However, with Bayern’s recent acquisition of Sacha Boey, Manchester United, under Erik ten Hag, remains a strong contender, especially since Ten Hag is an admirer of Dumfries and has been championing his acquisition.
Aston Villa’s interest, spearheaded by manager Unai Emery as he plans for the upcoming season with ambitious targets, adds an intriguing twist to the saga. While the inquiries from Aston Villa are in the preliminary stages and might not lead to an immediate offer, Inter Milan is hopeful that this interest will materialize into a competitive bid, potentially driving up Dumfries’ transfer fee and aiding Inter in securing valuable financial resources.
