Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger believes his fellow Frenchman, Antoine Griezmann has all it takes to break Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s stranglehold on the Pichichi prize as he’s the leading goalscorer at #Euro2016.
The Atletico Madrid star is on the brink of winning the Golden Boot at Euro 2016, with six goals to his name – three more than anyone else, including Ronaldo – ahead of his participation in Sunday’s final for France against Portugal in Paris. Followin an impressive campaign with Atletico Madrid which included a Champions League final, Griezmann has been tipped by many to win the Ballon d’Or this year – a prize which has been shared exclusively between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after Kaka claimed it in 2007.
Wenger, who has been in admiration for the striker made the following statement when ask about the talisman. He said:
“Griezmann for me is one of the candidates for the Ballon d’Or,” Wenger said to Konbini.
“In Spain, he is not far from Ronaldo and Messi. Age is on his side and look at the Euros: six goals, three or four assists – these stats are not nothing.
“This year he went to the Champions League final by scoring in all the big games, not to mention that he scored 22 goals in La Liga, so yes – why not the Ballon d’Or.”
