The Daily Mail claim Arsenal ideally need to sell Nicolas Pepe to help raise funds for some of the rest of their summer business, but the Ivory Coast international is yet to attract any interest.

Goal’s Charles Watts and Football.London report that the player has switched agents to try and secure a transfer, and perhaps that will start to pay dividends as the summer goes on.

But whilst Arsenal are open to a transfer, Watts suggests it might be difficult to find a club willing to take on Pepe’s wages.

In a sense, it’s surprising there’s not more interest in Pepe. Whilst he featured irregularly for Arsenal this season, he put up some good numbers on a per-minute basis, with nine goal contributions in 951 minutes.

With the Ivory Coast, Pepe had a few strong performances at AFCON and scored against France in March, bringing him to three goals and an assist in six international games (five starts) in 2022.

We already know the winger can be a success on the continent, after he scored 22 goals and assisted 11 in his final Ligue 1 campaign in 2018/19. He’d probably also find some joy with his style of play in the Bundesliga.

The problem is likely that there aren’t many foreign clubs with deep pockets, and the Premier League clubs are probably unconvinced the 27-year-old will ever make it in England.

Reports have suggested that Pepe was offered out to Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer, and perhaps they’re a rare example of a potential buyer. He’d likely do well back in France, and PSG never struggle to afford an asking price.

Arsenal clearly haven’t received any bids yet though, so a potential sale is going to drag on.
