Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta has revealed that the club will bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League with a win against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Gunners suffered a harsh 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League, their first defeat in the competition this season.
Hakan Calhanoglu gave Inter Milan the lead from the spot in the first half after Mikel Merino handled the ball in the box.
Arteta’s team have now lost their last two matches in all competitions after losing to Newcastle United last weekend.
Arsenal dominated possession but failed to find a way past a stubborn Inter Milan defence as their poor run of form has seen them win only twice in six matches in all competitions.
Arteta is confident that with the way they played against Inter Milan, they can pick up a win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
He said, “If we play the way we played tonight, the team has a big chance to win at Chelsea.
“The worst thing is the result, because of the performance and attitude we showed against one of the best teams in Europe in their stadium.
“It’s extremely frustrating because there were two decisions against us. If their one is a penalty, then we should have one when Mikel Merino is punched in the head.
“Of all the big games we have played in Europe, this was the best I have seen from my team in the last two years.
“That is the way we have to go. I have told them I am proud of them. We are disappointed because we didn’t get what we wanted out of the game, that is for sure.
“We were very harshly done by, there is no deflection, nothing you can do in the box, so can he get away from it?
“In the end, we are here to win, and we haven’t managed to, so we’re still extremely disappointed. We still have half the competition to play, and if we continue to play the way we did today, we will win a lot of games.”
Meanwhile, Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi was delighted with his team’s performance against Arsenal.
He said, “We had a great performance, zero goals conceded to Arsenal and City. It’s a source of great pride, but now we need to continue like this.
“Bisseck was very good, but he doesn’t have to prove anything to me. I know how good he is, and he has played two great games against teams like Man City and Arsenal this season. His only problem is that we have other great defenders, so he cannot play all the time, but I know how good he is.”
Inter’s captain, Lautaro Martinez, hailed his teammates for showing desire to grab the maximum points.
He said, “The best thing about this match is the three points, then the team spirit and the desire to fight that we put out on the pitch.
“These matches are very important for the league table. We didn’t concede any goals, and this is positive because in the (domestic) league, we conceded too many.
“We must continue to raise the level. We want everything. The history of this club says so. I want to win everything.”
The win propelled Inter Milan to fifth on the Champions League table with 10 points from four games, while Arsenal languished in the 12th position with seven points from four games.
Up next for Inter Milan in the Champions League is a home clash against RB Leipzig, while Arsenal travel to Portugal to take on Sporting Lisbon on November 26.
Arsenal will be hoping for an immediate response when they travel to Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League, a defeat for the Gunners will all but end their title hopes after falling seven points behind Liverpool to sit fifth on the log.
