Arsenal starter picks up another injury on international duty

Globo Esporte report that Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes was absent from training on Tuesday, after feeling pain in his left thigh muscle.

The defender is undergoing intensive treatment, with the hope that he’ll be fit later in the international break. But he won’t be available to feature for Brazil against Korea on Thursday.

The frustration for Gabriel will be that his wait for an international debut goes on. He’s made the matchday squad four times, and he’s now missed three matches in a row through poorly-timed injuries.

Gabriel Martinelli wasn’t called up to the Brazil senior squad until the last international break, yet he’s already made two appearances for the side.

Gabriel must be cursing his luck that he hasn’t had the same chance yet.

Thursday’s game against Korea is still worth keeping an eye on for Martinelli’s sake, but he’ll be the only Arsenal player with a chance to play.

Though that could be set to change, of course. Gabriel Jesus is involved in the Brazil squad, and Gabriel Magalhaes recently commented on the speculation that the striker could join Arsenal.

“We joke in the dressing room, but nothing is certain,” Magalhaes said. “He is certainly a quality player and, if he goes to Arsenal, he will help us a lot.”

The Athletic report that Arsenal remain optimistic that their interest in Jesus will eventually lead to a transfer.
