Wednesday 4th December 2024 sees Manchester United take on Arsenal in the Premier League.
Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, the new manager has helped United climb from 12th place to 9th, entering the top ten for the first time in nearly three months.
Arsenal meanwhile sit in second place behind Liverpool after their 5-2 win over West Ham United this weekend.
In the last three games combined, the two teams have scored a total of 21 goals, setting the fixture up to be an exciting one.
However, United are set to be going into the match without Kobbie Mainoo or Lisandro Martinez with the pair suspended after a string of bookings.
That said, Amorim will be pleased to have Leny Yoro and Bruno Fernandes both available for selection with them both cleared from injury to play.
As for Arsenal, The Gunners are set to miss six of their key players from the match, throwing Mikel Arteta’s selection into disarray.
Arsenal face injury woes ahead of Manchester United fixture
In defence, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White are both ruled out through knee injuries, whilst Gabriel Magalhaes could be set to join them after being removed from the last two games.
Magalhaes was instrumental to Arsenal winning a penalty against West Ham, colliding with Lukasz Fabianski, however, when he was then removed from the pitch, Arteta commented: “It was related to the previous injury he had in Lisbon.”
He continued: “Obviously, he did great to be part of that but with that result and with the niggle that he’s feeling, we decided to take him off.”
Riccardo Calafiori also looks set to join them, also being taken off against West Ham, replaced by Oleksandr Zinchenko in the 56th minute.
Arteta addressed the Italian defender’s substitution saying he’s been “dealing with little niggles in the last few weeks”, adding that he’s doubtful against United.
Further up the field, Arsenal are also set to miss Mikel Merino and Thomas Partey who failed to make an appearance against West Ham.
Their absence was addressed by Arteta who commented: “Unfortunately they both picked [up] an injury and the game came too early and they couldn’t be part of the squad.”
