Arsenal plan renewed offer for Moises Caicedo

Fabrizio Romano reports that Moises Caicedo hasn’t yet agreed terms with any club, and he’s currently considering his options. However, he expects to leave Brighton this summer, in part thanks to a pact he has with Roberto De Zerbi.

According to Romano, De Zerbi made an agreement with Caicedo when Brighton rejected Arsenal’s bids for him in January.

That agreement was that he would be allowed to leave in the summer, as long as Brighton received a bid of £70-80m. Not £100m, as is being claimed by some sources.

Chelsea are leading the race for Caicedo, but Romano adds that Arsenal’s interest also remains, alongside Manchester United.

Gary Jacob reports for The Times that Arsenal are planning a renewed offer for Caicedo, after being turned down in the winter window.

Jacob adds that Arsenal also want another attacking player, a centre-back, and a full-back, but the focus is clearly on midfield.

We know that Declan Rice is Arsenal’s priority target, and a bid is expected on that front shortly. But a move for Caicedo is evidently still on the table as well.

Chelsea are the primary obstacle to a deal, after their failure to secure a move for Sporting CP’s Manuel Ugarte.

That deal then came crashing down on Sunday night, with Ben Jacobs breaking the news that Chelsea had conceded the race to Paris Saint-Germain.

As a result, Chelsea switched their focus to Caicedo, and they’re reportedly optimistic about a deal.

You’d imagine Chelsea’s biggest issue will be convincing Brighton to sell them Caicedo whilst also holding onto Levi Colwill.

Brighton are clearly keen on Colwill, making one bid and planning another. But Chelsea don’t want to sell the defender, which could cause some tension.

When it comes to convincing Caicedo, you’d expect Arsenal to have the upper hand.

The Gunners finished second in the league versus Chelsea’s 12th, and they have European football whilst the Blues don’t. Chelsea’s huge squad was already overstuffed, and they now have even fewer games to share between too many players.

But that’s not going to matter if Chelsea do a deal with Brighton and Arsenal don’t, as we saw with Mykhaylo Mudryk.
