Of Arsenal’s many loanees this season, only two were still waiting for their debuts ahead of this weekend – Salah-Eddine Oulad M’hand (currently injured) and Tom Smith.
Smith had joined Bromley FC in the National League over a month ago, but he was yet to make the squad. The goalkeeper then made his first squad appearance and first start against Oldham Athletic on Saturday.
The Arsenal man had the ideal debut, keeping a clean sheet as Bromley won 3-0. He earned praise for the performance from the Bromley fans after the match.

The hope is that now Smith has made it into the team, he’ll be able to hold down a place as their new number one.
The goalkeeper has been on three previous National League loans, but he hasn’t had much luck with them so far.
The goalkeeper first joined Salisbury FC in 2019, making 10 appearances in a couple of months before suffering a knee cartilage injury that saw him withdrawn.
Smith then went to Dover Athletic, but his season was disrupted in part by the Covid-19 pandemic, and he only made three league appearances for the side.
After that, the goalkeeper joined Welling United, and once again, his season was cut short by injury after just a couple of league appearances.
20-year-old Smith will hope this is the year his fortunes start to turn.
