Job Description
The role of the Applications Enterprise Architect includes (but is not limited to) the following duties:
Manage and co-ordinate the upkeep of the WCG applications portfolio inventory.
Analyze the WCG applications portfolio inventory to provide insights for strategic decision-making at a functional, departmental a provincial level.
Develop and guide the implementation of a WCG Application Portfolio Management (APM) Strategy.
Ensure that the appropriate strategies and policies related to the APM Strategy are in place and co-ordinate the development of the required strategies and policies which are deemed missing.
Ensure that the strategies and policies are implemented and adhered to.
Develop and review application costing models and spending trends.
Contribute, promote, and ensure adherence to ICT governance frameworks, processes, and best practice.
Co-ordinate and manage the analysis of business needs, user requirements, objectives and goals for approved e-Government and ICT programmes/projects within the agreed Frameworks.
Provide strategic direction for the WCG application landscape.
Provide blueprints and roadmaps for most effective target application architecture that supports the WCG strategic goals.
Ensure that enterprise software application standards are reviewed in terms of development platforms, development tools and development languages.
Guide, review and recommend application architecture design and system integration.
Ensure application governance are enforced and monitored.
Quality assures application projects before implementation.
Develop and maintain WCG Enterprise Architecture frameworks and standards.
Analyze and ensure alignment to National ICT governance frameworks and standards
Provide input into the WCG Provincial Digital Transformation and Departmental ICT Plans.
Actively contribute expertise to the project team in all areas of application architecture.
Provide guidance in the ICT solutions procurement processes.
Contribute to system designs, test plans, training of users and implementation plans of applications from an application architectural perspective.
Co-ordinate the process of post implementation of business systems and impact evaluations.
Manages and maintain the application artifacts in the enterprise architecture repository.
Recommend appropriate courses of action to developers/technicians and management on application and infrastructure issues.
Define the system, technical, and application architectures, and in some instances, the business architecture for major areas of development.
Define technical standards and methods for application, performance, and quality engineering.
Serve as a group member on the internal architecture governance structures.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a relevant role.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science etc.
Architecture certificate (e.g., TOGAF, Red Hat, Amazon etc.).
