ApologyMan discusses what makes Firebrand the 'forgotten top tier' of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with Jmcrofts

Jmcrofts has released another video where he sits down with a notable character specialist within the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 scene. This time, Jmcrofts has decided to discuss Firebrand with ApologyMan, a player notable for coming in third place at Evo 2015 with the unorthodox team of Firebrand, Dr. Doom and Super-Skrull.

It’s revealed during the video that one of the main reasons behind ApologyMan’s decision to use Firebrand is because of how the character synergizes with Super-Skrull. There’s a particularly deadly setup that only a few characters can practically deal with after being made the point character.

If Firebrand’s heavy Demon Missile special is charged all the way, the attack actually becomes unblockable. This works especially well with one of Super-Skrull’s assists since it’s one of the best lockdown assists in the game.

It’s been theorized that Firebrand was originally balanced by the developers with the idea that Firebrand has ridiculously good tools, but low damage. Of course, this idea doesn’t actually work too well during a 3v3 team fighting game in which Firebrand can switch out at any moment for combos and damage.

ApologyMan is adamant that Firebrand is a top tier character, though he has a particularly difficult time against Morrigan. The character doesn’t get used much due to oddities and the learning curve. For example, Firebrand’s air dashes are performed using motion specials which is different from most other air dashes in the game.

After their discussion, Jmcrofts continues the tradition where he plays the player in an online set. Check it all out in the video below:
