The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has decisively won the local government elections held on September 28, 2024, in Anambra State, claiming all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 21 local government areas.
Genevieve Osakwe, the Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), announced the results late Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Awka, confirming APGA’s complete sweep of the elections.
Osakwe stated that APGA candidates secured all 21 chairmanship and councillorship seats, with results being declared at the ward level. She characterized the election as the “fairest,” highlighting the commission’s diligent efforts to collate and analyze the results to eliminate errors.
“The commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure accuracy,” Osakwe emphasized.

She also commended security agencies for their role in maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral process. “This is to confirm the results of the chairmanship and councillorship elections held on September 28, 2024. The polls were free, fair and credible, and APGA candidates were returned elected, having scored the highest number of votes,” she affirmed.
It was, however, observed at the ANSIEC office that only APGA officials and agents were in attendance when the results were announced around 8:20 PM on Sunday.
