NetherRealm Studios is generally pretty darn good at getting original actors back in to play their guest characters and skins for Mortal Kombat and Injustice though their track record isn’t totally perfect.
There’s been plenty of questions floating around about The Boys’ Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 as of late and whether Antony Starr will be reprising his role.
Well, Starr recently posted a new picture to his Instagram page with some of his fellow castmates, which of course had fans asking about the role in the fighting game.
Interestingly, the actor actually responded to one of them with the somewhat ironic name of “maxium_mishima,” who also funnily wrote Anthony instead of Antony.
Starr’s response: “mmmmmmm.”
That’s not exactly a definitive answer, but that’s notably not a no either.
If he’s not going to or has no plans to do so, you’d think it’d be easier for Starr to just not engage with this at all until an official announcement is made though that’s obviously not what he did here… sort of.
There is still the theory going around that the SAG-AFTRA strike (which began all the way back in July) is preventing Starr from working on or talking about Mortal Kombat because it’s using his TV character from The Boys.
It could very well be that negotiations were still ongoing when the actor’s guild strike started, and there’s not much to be done there until it’s over.
At the same time, however, J.K. Simmons and John Cena were both confirmed for Omni-Man and Peacemaker respectively while there’s been no official word on Homelander.
Both actors also already appear in the official game credits for MK1 without any listing for Starr (though we didn’t spot anyone else who would likely be Homelander either).
Luckily, there is still a bit of time to hopefully get things in order since the recently revealed DLC release windows for MK1 state Homelander won’t be coming until sometime in Spring 2024, which could be as much as eight months away.
So even if he’s not fully attached to the project or anything confirmed right now, that doesn’t mean Starr is out of the race yet.
