Andy Murray of Scotland is on the brink of winning back-to-back Olympic tennis gold medals for men’s singles after beating Japanese fourth seed Kei Nishikori 6-1 6-4 in the semi-finals.
The World number two Murray, 29, is also on the course to become the first ever player to win two Olympic singles titles. The tennis star speaking during the post match event in Rio de Janeiro said; “It’s obviously not an easy thing to do, that’s why it’s never been done before.
“I’m going to give my best effort and I’m happy I’m guaranteed the medal, but the goal is obviously the gold.” Murray said.
The Scot will now play Juan Martin del Potro in Sunday’s gold-medal match at 19:00 BST after the Argentine also beat Spain’s Rafael Nadal 5-7 6-4 7-6 (7-5) earlier on.
