Manchester United’s Europa League hopes hang in the balance as they prepare for a season-defining trip to France.
Ruben Amorim’s side ground out a 0-0 draw against Manchester City on Sunday, halting their rivals but failing to ignite confidence ahead of Thursday’s clash.
With a Premier League campaign marred by inconsistency, United’s European run has become their only route back to continental competition next season.
The Red Devils have won just two of their last seven games across all competitions, but belief remains strong inside the camp.
Meanwhile, Lyon are flying in Ligue 1, having won four of their last five matches to close in on a Champions League spot.
Both Manchester United and Lyon have talked a big game ahead of their Europa League quarter-final showdown, setting the stage for a fiery encounter.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana didn’t hold back in the build-up to the first leg, boldly claiming, “I think we are better than them, we just have to go there and show who we are.

“If we go there with a winning mentality and we are focused, stay compact and together and we follow the game plan, we will be winning the game.”
Andre Onana, who made five saves against Manchester City, also emphasised United’s internal focus over their opponent’s form: “We know some of them, but I don’t think we have to focus on them.
“It’s more about us, what we’re going to do.
“Of course, it’s not going to be easy, but I think we are way better than them.”
Lyon, however, are not short on confidence either.
Fresh from a 2-1 comeback win over Lille, Rayan Cherki fired a warning shot of his own: “We are ready to wage war against them.”
The 21-year-old starlet has notched eight Europa League assists this season, matching the highest in a single campaign since 2011-12, and also has nine goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
The French side have never beaten Manchester United in European competition, but history will count for little when the two clubs face off in a clash that could shape both seasons.
With European survival on the line for Amorim, the Red Devils must now back up their fighting words with a statement performance.
