Andalusia takes down Tigers, 19-9

Andalusia made the short road trip north to Straughn where the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead on its way to a 19-9 victory.
Andalusia opened the game with four runs in the top of the first. Kielan Davis led off by reaching on an error, advancing to second base and then stole third. Another fielding error on a grounder by Riley Cravey scored Davis. Grover Wells came through with double, putting runners at second and third for Asher Bentley who singled both home for a 3-0 edge. William Grimes made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly to score Connor Ray.
The Tigers got right back in it, starting with a lead-off single by Eli Melvin. An error on a groundball by Saxby Radford put two on for Matt Ashberry who nailed a pitch for three-run homer to right field, cutting the lead to 4-3 after one inning.
A series of walks benefitted Andalusia in the second, increasing the lead to 6-3. Cravey made it an 8-3 lead with a two-run homer over the left field fence in the third. The Bulldogs scored two more in that inning to take a 10-3 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Ashberry hit second homer to make the score 10-5.
Straughn got even closer in the fourth with clutch at-bats, scoring four runs with two outs.
From there, Andalusia provided all the offense, scoring five in the fifth and three in the sixth to secure the victory.
Andalusia improved to 5-4-1 on the season and will open area play Monday, March 17, 5:30 p.m., at home against Greenville.
Straughn falls to 5-5 and travels to Brantley on Monday, March 17, with a scheduled start of 4:30 p.m.
