Andalusia man killed in early-morning house fire

(Editor’s Note: This story will be updated to include the name of the victim who died as a result of the fire.)

The Andalusia Fire Department has confirmed there was a fatality in a house fire on Woodlawn Avenue very early Friday morning.

Fire Chief Russell McGlamory said the identity of the victim who died in the fire is being withheld out of respect and until the family is properly notified.

The AFD was called to the scene of the fully engulfed home shortly after 1 a.m., and told there was possibly someone in the house.

Firefighters were on the scene until 6 a.m., he said.

Although the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, McGlamory said it appeared that the fire started in the garage or laundry room area.

The state fire marshal is investigating the fire, as is protocol in any fire in which there is a fatality.
