Ahead of Saturday November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, over 150 members of the All Progressive Congress APC, and Labour Party LP has defected to the State ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA.
According to Dr. Nelson Omenugha, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP), who led the defectors, the mass movement is a major boost to Governor Soludo’s re-election bid, with the new members pledging to vote for APGA in the election.
The defection ceremony that took place at Nnobi market square, on Tuesday, was part of the “Nnobi For Soludo” Nnobi Campaign Rally for Governor Soludo, which drew thousands of supporters.

Speaking during the event, Dr Nelson noted that Governor Soludo’s achievements in health, education, road infrastructure, and youth empowerment have endeared him to the people.
He commended the defectors for keying into Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous state in Nigeria.
One of the key defectors, Chief Patrick Nwanyiaku, a stalwart of APC in Nnobi Ward 1, explained why he and others joined APGA. “I’ve been in different parties, including PDP and Labour Party, but I’ve benefited nothing. I’ve been trying to market APC, but the party is unmarketable in Nnobi community. Governor Soludo has done well since he assumed office, and it’s wrong to fight the government in power while asking for projects,” he said. Chief Patrick, who is also the APC Coordinator in Nnobi Ward 1, assured that he would mobilize voters for Governor Soludo in Wards 1, 2, and 3.
Chief Okwy Ogujiofor, State Campaign Officer of APC in Idemili South, emphasized the need to support and vote Governor Soludo. “We are collapsing all the APC structures in other wards and giving massive support and votes to Governor Soludo,” he stated, as he threw his weight behind the Governor’s re-election bid.
The Member Representing Idemili South State Constituency, Hon. Barr. Ebuka Igwe Esq, welcomed the defectors to APGA and assured them of a warm reception. “We commend the bold decision of the APC and Labour Party members who have joined APGA. They will be carried along in all the affairs of the party in the council area,” he said.
