Anambra poll: I will not allow Nnewi North for opposition – Council Chairman, Anazodo vows

By Ovat Abeng

Ahead of the November 8, 2025 election in Anambra State, the Executive Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon Echezuna Anazodo, has vow not to allow opposition political parties in the race to take over the council area from the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA led-government under his watch.

He made the vow while debunking a viral video currently trending on social media alleging that he demolished market stalls at Agboedo Market, Nkwo Nnewi, and demanded N3.1 million from traders for new shops.

Anazodo who spoke to Journalists at his office, on Friday, shortly after embarking on the spot- assessment tour to the market, accused the opposition parties of sponsoring the say video to discredit the good work governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo is doing in the area and to seek cheep popularity for their candidates.

The Chairman warn the public, particularly, the traders in the market to disregard the video and concentrate on their businesses.

According to him, there is no amount of blackmail, the opposition parties contesting the election would mount in the area that would unseat the government of the day.

“Nnewi North under my leadership will give governor Soludo 100 over 100 support votes during the voting process to enable complete the ongoing projects in the council area.

“What Soludo has done in just three and half years in office, is more than enough evidence for the good people of Nnewi North and the entire state to mobilized for his second term bid.

Speaking further on the development, the chairman expressed shock over the video showing a woman leading a supposed protest against him. He said he neither knew the woman nor authorized any demolition or financial demand from the traders.

“I never discussed any payment or collected a dime from any trader,” Anazodo stated. “The allegations are false and a deliberate attempt by the opposition to mislead the public and weaken the support Nnewi people have for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). That plan will fail.”

He urged journalists to also visit the market for verification, revealing that the woman behind the claims was not even a trader at Nkwo Nnewi.

“This is not the first time such propaganda has been spread in that market,” he said. “When we came in, the market was like a slum—unaccessible and disorganized. The state government and council have since worked hard to revamp it.”

Anazodo cited several projects in the market, including the construction of Adili Road with a spur to the Building Materials Road, an almost completed inner access road, public toilet facilities, a hall, and modern stalls for low-income traders—all provided free of charge.

“How can I build stalls and allow traders to use them free, only to turn around and demand N3.1 million from them? That’s illogical and baseless,” he emphasized.

He added that investigations revealed the protest was politically motivated, orchestrated by opposition elements in Nnewi to discredit the uncommon projects of Mr Governor.

Despite what he described as distractions, the Mayor reaffirmed his commitment to Governor Soludo’s development agenda and vowed that Nnewi North would do all the needful to ensure total victory for APGA.
