In a major political development ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State, over 5,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including ten high-ranking party officials from Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, have officially defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to support the re-election bid of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
The defection, which took place on Saturday in Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of the State, was marked by a festive atmosphere, underscoring the growing momentum behind Soludo’s administration.
The event featured a formal reception ceremony led by the Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ifeanyi Okoma, who described the move as a bold and strategic decision by the defectors.

Among the prominent defectors were Hon. Stella Nkiruka Chukwukeri, former APC Woman Leader in Obosi; Mr. Stanley Ifeanyi Okafor, former APC Youth Leader; Hon. Faith Ekwunife Okoye; Hon. Success Okwudili, APC Ward Chairman; and other influential grassroots mobilizers and political stakeholders.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Stella Chukwukeri expressed profound satisfaction at her return to APGA, describing it as the political soul of the Southeast.
“APGA is the home of Ndi Igbo. It is not just a party; it is a movement rooted in our identity and aspirations. My political mentor, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezim, has always championed the cause of the Southeast under the APGA platform. Today, I return with joy and a renewed sense of purpose to the party that truly represents us,” she said.
In his address, Commissioner Ifeanyi Okoma emphasized the significance of the mass defection as evidence of APGA’s growing influence and the electorate’s confidence in Governor Soludo’s leadership.
“Across Anambra, people are waking up to the reality that APGA is not just an option; it is the only viable political platform that genuinely prioritizes the interests of Ndi Igbo. While others are campaigning with empty rhetoric, Governor Soludo is delivering real, measurable development. His achievements are not hidden they are evident in roads, schools, hospitals, and economic reforms,” Okoma stated.
He further noted that Soludo’s governance style, rooted in accountability and grassroots development, has restored faith in public leadership and continues to resonate with citizens across party lines.
Ambassador Chimezie Obi, President General of Obosi, also hailed the defection as a landmark event in the political history of the community.
He applauded Governor Soludo’s administration for its deliberate inclusion of Obosi in the state’s development agenda.
“For the first time, a sitting Governor has pledged to establish a local government secretariat in Obosi. Previous administrations sidelined us, but Governor Soludo has restored our place in the governance of Anambra State. This is not just politics it is justice and recognition,” Obi added.
He called on the people of Obosi to mobilize en masse and deliver a resounding victory for APGA at the upcoming polls, describing the election as a defining moment for the future of the community.
The mood in Obosi was electrifying, as thousands of former APC loyalists chanted “APGA bu nke anyi!” (APGA is ours!), signaling a powerful shift in local political dynamics. Community leaders, youth groups, market women, and cultural unions joined in the celebration, declaring unwavering support for Governor Soludo.
The mass defection is widely seen as a strategic blow to the APC’s efforts in the state and a reinforcement of Soludo’s growing political capital, not just within APGA but across Anambra’s political spectrum.
As the 2025 governorship election draws nearer, Saturday’s event has further cemented APGA’s position as the dominant political force in Anambra State and underscored Governor Charles Soludo’s rising stature as a transformative leader with broad grassroots appeal.
