The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Ben Obidike, has said free ante-natal, free child deliveries and free surgeries initiated by the state governorr, Chukwuma Charles Soludo in general hospitals across the state, contributed overwhelmingly to his reelection in the just concluded Anambra 2025 gubernatorial election.

Obidike, who addressed journalists, after Soludo was declared the winner of the governorship election conducted on Saturday, November 8, 2025, said the tate government built five new general hospitals and rehabilitated over 130 others, including primary healthcare centres across the state within three years of his administration, thereby revolutionising the state’s health sector.

He listed some of the health facilities to include General Hospital, Ekwulobia, Specialist Hospital, Fegge in Onitsha, Rehabilitation Centre, Nibo and Trauma Centre built at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.

Obidike said the rehabilitation of the health facilities were part of Soludo’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, especially in rural and underserved communities.

He dismissed claims by the opposition political parties that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance engaged in vote-buying, saying it was the opposition parties that tried to woo the people with various sums of money, adding, “but their money was rejected because the people want Soludo to continue his good works in Anambra.”

He said Soludo’s administration remains committed to its vision of having one functional general hospital in every local government area.

“Soludo is intentional about bridging the healthcare gap between urban and rural communities. No Anambra citizen should die because they cannot afford or access medical care.

“The governor initiated free ante-natal care, drugs and free deliveries in general hospitals across the state. What this means is that from the moment a baby is conceived in the womb, the state government starts taking care of him.

“This is a laudable achievement that earned the governor a reelection seamlessly because what he has done, especially in the state health sector is unbeatable and he still has better plans to unveil during his second term,” the Commissioner stressed.
