The government of Anambra state has provided training in technical skills to more than 25,000 young individuals, equipping them for employment opportunities in the global market.
This was revealed by the Special Adviser to the Governor of the state, Charles Soludo on innovation and business incubation, Miss Chinwe Okoli on Tuesday during the unveiling of programmes for the maiden Innovative Week.
She also said that the government has set up a N100 million cash prize to be won by participants in the innovation competition in the area.
Okoli announced that the Anambra Innovative Week, set to take place from November 25 to November 29, will include a competition titled ‘Battle for Solution’ in which tech inventors and innovators will have the opportunity to compete for a total prize of N100 million.
She further stated that startups and innovators throughout Nigeria were encouraged to present their solutions aimed at tackling significant societal issues across various sectors, including health, renewable energy, e-commerce, agritech, education, and fintech, among others.
She said: “Through programmes like LevelUp Anambra and Code Anambra, we have trained over 25,000 youths on various deep technology skills preparing them for jobs in the global market-and many other them secure such jobs daily, while our SID Teen Digital Bootcamp cultivates a new generation of talented teens poised for future global impact”
“Additionally, the Anambra State Startup Law, a domestication of the Nigerian Startup Act, is underway to boost an environment that nurtures creativity, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth.
”In support of this commitment, Governor Soludo has prioritised infrastructure, with over 2,000 km of fibre duct being laid across the state for last-mile internet connectivity”
“Anambra innovation week will feature exhibitions, games competitions, keynote speeches, high level panels, workshops, master classes and a trade innovation fair for SMEs.
“The five day event will bring together innovators, policymakers, top tech CEOs, industry experts, entrepreneurs, investors, digital experts and the academia from Africa and beyond.
“The ‘Battle for Solutions’ is an innovative competition with a prize pool of over 100 million naira in cash prizes.
“These are designed to advance technology innovation workshops across the continent, Anambra innovation week prioritises growth through bold ideas, talents, technology and invention.”
