Operatives of the Ekiti State Command of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corps, have arrested a 19-year-old suspect identified as Samuel in connection with phone snatching incidents in Oye Ekiti, the headquarters of Oye Local Government Area.
The arrest, which took place over the weekend, led to further revelations about a syndicate allegedly operating in the community.
During interrogation, Samuel named two collaborators, 20-year-old Sanusi Garuba and another person identified as Tosin.
In a statement released on Monday in Ado Ekiti, the Head of Communications for the Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Abiodun Adeleye, said the Amotekun operatives arrested the two additional suspects in the same locality.
“The arresting Amotekun officers at Oye Ekiti stated that the suspect, Samuel, upon interrogation, confessed his involvement in such stealing acts.
“He alleged that he was involved in phone snatching and connived with a syndicate, including 20-year-old Sanusi Garuba. He further mentioned another co-suspect, Tosin, who he said lured him into theft to have become an expert at phone snatching,” Adeleye disclosed.
He noted that the suspects have been handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Oye Ekiti for further investigation and prosecution.
“The principal suspect and the two others have been handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Oye Ekiti for necessary action and further interrogation,” Adeleye stated.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to rid Ekiti State of criminal activities under the leadership of its Corps Commander, Brigadier General Olu Adewa (rtd).
“The Ekiti Amotekun Corps remains committed to flushing out criminals and safeguarding the lives and property of residents across the state,” Adeleye stressed.
