Osahon Okunbo, the Executive Director of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, has been awarded a honourary doctorate in Leadership and Public Administration by the American Management University.
He received the award alongside Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State at the 2024 Peace Archivers International Conference held at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
Okunbo’s Executive Assistant, Marilyn Nwachukwu, who accepted the award on his behalf, described him as a dynamic entrepreneur whose journey “has been fueled by a deep-seated commitment to uplifting the communities in which he operates. His career is a testament to this ethos, marked by transformative projects that integrate public and private sector efforts, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and public service delivery.”
Nwachukwu added, “While Okunbo’s foundation lies in the private sector, he has always recognized the indispensable role of collaboration between the public and private spheres in driving national progress. He has spearheaded initiatives alongside government institutions, ensuring that these endeavors address the needs of the people they serve.
“His work underscores the power of public-private partnerships as catalysts for innovation, efficiency, and sustainable development.
“His approach to leadership in public administration is guided by principles of accountability, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to the public good. Through his efforts, he continues to champion policies and projects that empower communities, enhance infrastructure, and create opportunities for future generations.
The entrepreneur with 15 years of leadership experience has established himself as a transformative force across various sectors of Nigeria’s economy. His portfolio spans energy, power, hospitality, agriculture, and aviation.
The Chairman of Wells Carlton Hotels and Apartments has also championed various public and private sector initiatives.
Through the Osa Okunbo Foundation, he has implemented programmes targeting poverty alleviation, education enhancement, healthcare accessibility, and entrepreneurship development to create social impact and empower future generations.
Accepting the honorary doctorate, Okunbo stated that leadership transcends titles and accolades. According to him, it is about service, vision, and creating lasting impact.
Recently, he was recognised as ‘Emerging Leader in Philanthropy’ by the Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards (HSD Awards).
The son of late Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo has continued to build upon his father’s legacy while forging his own path in business and philanthropy.
