The Old Girls of Edgerly Memorial Girls Secondary School Calabar in a fun-filled event celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the school with several activities that crescendoed in an all White Dinner Party in Calabar.
The Dinner Party which featured the presentation of certificates and awards/recognition of deserving members of the association and members of the society for playing supportive roles towards the development of the school also had the presentation of trophies to the class sets of 1993, 1992 and 1998 who came 1st, 2nd, 3rd respectively in the music competition.
Addressing newsmen during one of the activities, the Chairman, LOC, Patra Akpan informed that it was necessary to celebrate and appreciate God for taking the school thus far. Adding that the significance of the music fiesta was to go back memory lane to recall those fun activities they engaged themselves in as students.
At the dinner party, The National President of the Edgerly, Pastor Mrs. Eme Afia admonished members to look out for themselves while encouraging them to always think of giving back to the school.
One of the awardees and pioneer teachers of the Edgerly Nursery schools Chief Ekpenyong Ekpenyong who spoke with our correspondent said he was elated to be nominated for the award added he feels lucky to be awarded by a female association. He however admonished the girls to unite with other old girls across the globe so they could achieve more for the school.
A one-time principal of the school in 1993 also lent her voice in appreciating the old girls for a wonderful outing.
Some old girls who spoke to our correspondent took a trip down memory lane, sharing anecdotes of past challenges, including bullying by senior students, that have transformed into enduring friendships and collaborations in nation-building.
The celebration reached its pinnacle with a Thanksgiving Service at the school chapel, witnessing a remarkable turnout of enthusiastic old girls.
