The Commissioner for Works in Cross River, Mr Pius Edet, says that all projects initiated by the governor Bassey Otu-led administration will be completed.
He stated this Wednesday at a press briefing in his office in Calabar, the state capital.
According to the Commissioner, the government has a lot in stock, and within one year the administration has initiated several projects which are ongoing across the state.
“We are initiating another projects – about 10 extra roads will be constructed in Calabar South. This is beyond the ongoing rehabilitation. A lot of projects have been initiated by this government. We are not going to leave any project behind.
“There are projects that were initiated by the past government, we have also taken it upon ourselves to ensure that we go back to those projects. We can’t abandon them like that,” he said.
Responding to question on why most of the projects are concentrated in the southern part of the state, the Commissioner explained that “it was proper that we commence in the south because when the head is rotten the entire body is rotten.
“All the entries to Cross River State land in Calabar. Whatever anybody sees in Calabar that’s what he or she takes home. If Calabar is not seen as developed, Cross River will not be seen as developed. It’s important we commence infrastructural development in Calabar to give Cross River State a facelift.
“However, the budget that was done wasn’t for Calabar alone. It covers the central and northern parts of the state. As I speak to you, we are commencing the construction of network of roads in Ugep, Yakurr local government and Ikom local government respectively. This is not a government of a single senatorial district, it is a government for the entire state. The interest of all the 18 local government areas are captured in the budget so we will take it one after the other.”
On the controversy over ownership of projects, especially in some parts of Calabar, Mr Edet stated that all projects in the state belong to the government and that they are for the benefits of Cross Riverians.
