Tekken 8 provides players with a robust customization mode that allows us to change up all manner of cosmetic attributes for our favorite fighters. From hairstyles and colors to wacky accessories, there’s a lot you can do within this mode to make your character unique and stand out among the pack.
Looking through your customization options, you’ll notice that there are a handful of “full body” costumes for each character that change the entire look of your fighter, but don’t let you swap out specific gear pieces (essentially acting more like a traditional alternate costume). Every fighter has (at least) one alternate outfit right out of the gate that is uniquely locked and can’t be outright purchased with in-game Fight Money, so today we’re looking at these outfits for all 32 fighters and will share with you how to unlock them all.
All but one of the full body costumes (in most cases) are either unlocked right from the start or require you to slap some in-game gold down on the table to access it. However, that one costume per fighter has a lock icon on it, and when you click on it, it will tell you that you can unlock it by way of a designated Super Ghost Battle fight.
There does exist two exceptions in Asuka and Jin, who have two locked costumes at the start. These additional costumes are also unlocked the same way as the first.
Though that seems fairly straightforward in giving you a lead on where to go to start gaining access to these costumes, actually unlocking them is a little less clear.
When you head into Super Ghost Battle mode, you will be shown the ropes of how ghosts work and then quickly thrown into a battle against your own ghost. You can begin training your ghost here by simply fighting them and using your favorite techniques and strings, and you’ll see that the AI opponent will swiftly begin picking up on what you’re putting down.
Once you’ve gotten through all of that, going back to the Super Ghost Battle mode will place you in a small arcade room with two head-to-head cabinets in the center and a variety of different avatars hanging all around the different areas of the room.
Each one of these avatars is a potential opponent, but if you don’t know what to look for, you will undoubtedly waste a lot of time fighting ghosts that don’t reward you with anything.
What you want to look for here are the opponents that have a small closed treasure chest icon by their name. Look closely at this icon, as there is a variation of it that shows an open treasure chest, which signifies that you have already claimed your reward from this ghost.
Defeating a ghost with a closed chest icon will grant you the alternate costume (usually “TK8 Style Alternate B) of whichever character they’re using. As far as I could find, there is no indicator of which character the ghost is using before you start a match.
This means you’ll have to grind it out and take on any and all avatar opponents with the appropriate icon next to their name to eventually stumble onto the costume you’re searching for.
On the plus side, you’ll only have to defeat a ghost in one game (3 out of 5 rounds) to acquire their costume. The bad news is, some of these ghosts are incredibly aggressive and can be tough to beat, so some fights might not be as simple as just walking in and winning.
There is a finite number of avatar opponents in the arcade room at any given time, so once you’ve defeated all the closed chest ghosts, you’ll want to exit out of the mode and come back. The player pool should refresh at this time, and you will likely have more costume-harboring foes to do battle with then.
Keep rinsing and repeating the process and you should be able to unlock all 34 locked costumes for each fighter in Tekken 8. Once this costume is unlocked for a fighter, you will have access to it and do not have to spend any in-game money to get it.
