This week saw Manchester United take on FC Twente in their opening game of the newly structured Europa League.
Under the new Europa League structure, instead of a group of four, United will be playing eight different opponents, including FC Twente, Porto, Fenerbahce, PAOK, Bodo/Glimt, Vitoria Plazen, Rangers and FCSB.
Unfortunately, Erik ten Hag, his reunion with his former club ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving United in 20th in the Europa League table after one round of play.
The result is yet another disappointment in United’s rocky start to the season, following on from their poor European performances last season, not managing to win a single Champions League group match.

Reactions to Manchester United vs FC Twente
The Dutch media have heavily placed the blame for the poor performances on ten Hag, with former Dutch international Ruud Gullit commenting: “I’m not shocked because I see this every week.”
This comment was further elaborated on by Dutch pundit Danny Koevermans who agreed, saying: “We’ve actually gotten used to it a bit. It’s not surprising at all when you look at Manchester United.”
He continued: “They’re not significantly better than a mid-table club like Wolverhampton Wanderers”
However, now Alejandro Garnacho’s brother Roberto has come out defending the United manager.
Roberto Garnacho’s defence of Erik ten Hag
Speaking on X on his account, @garna1k, Roberto Garnacho addressed United fans, saying: “Btw you all blame ten hag , but 11 United players level not being able to smash them at home , I don’t think that’s on ten hag mate”
He continued, saying: “Same last game btw , dominated but couldn’t score a goal , somehow last week it was the winger fault , this one ten hags”
In response to this, @Ifcharry commented: “I blame your brother”, to which Garnacho commented a very simple: “Same”.
Another United fan, @sirbusby1, commented: “We want results no domination”, with Roberto Garnacho responding, further defending ten Hag by saying: “All ten hag can do is dominate a game , then the players are the one who have to perform to score and not concede”
Interestingly enough these responses are all very supportive of ten Hag and what he’s doing in the hot seat at Old Trafford, however, it’s inadvertently, or intentionally, throwing shade at his brother who played for the latter part of the game.
