In Awka, Enugu Rangers were held to a 0-0 draw by Katsina United FC.
NPFL new boys Sporting Lagos came from behind to hold Heartland FC to a 1-1 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
Chinedu Ike scored the opening goal in the 75th minute.
Sporting Lagos had to wait for Jonathan Alukwu’s goal deep into stoppage time to hold Heartland FC to a draw.
Heartland are still without a win in the NPFL this season.
Former champions Rivers United defeated Abia Warriors 2-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Alex Oyowah gave Rivers United the lead from the spot six minutes before the break.
Abia Warriors defender Ifeanyi Anaemena conceded an own goal to double Rivers United’s lead eight minutes from time.
Anaemena did make amends for the own-goal when he pulled one back for the Warriors on 86 minutes.
Umar Abba scored the winning goal on 13 minutes as Gombe United defeated Niger Niger Tornadoes 1-0.
