In a bid to match words with actions the lawmaker representing Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwarra Federal Constituency of Cross River State in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpanke has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency rehabilitate the abandon Obudu Dam Resort.
The MP, who made the call in a motion presented on the floor of the house informed that the Obudu Dam resort is a versatile facility that do not only supply water to over 60,000 people in its vicinity but also offers recreational activities. Unfortunately, the resort was flooded in 2005, prompting the Cross River State Government to secure funding from the International Development Agency (IDA) for its rehabilitation.
Hon. Akpanke emphasized that restoring the dam would have multiple benefits, including facilitating irrigation on approximately 100 hectares of agricultural land, boosting fisheries, and promoting tourism in the northern part of the state.
Recall, that Calabarparrot had published how Hon. Akpanke embarked on a needs assessment tour of the federal constituency immediately he was sworn into office, where he promised the people to attract federal government’s attention to all abandoned projects in his constituency.
The motion which was seconded by Hon. Umar Usman Ajilo, representing Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency was welcomed with rapt attention as the committee on water resources (When constituted) have been mandated to investigate the said abandoned project and report back to the house within four weeks for further legislative actions.
