The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, has pledged renewed commitment to advancing sustainable growth in the South-South region.
Ms. Akpabio made the pledge on Wednesday following a strategic meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Discussions centered around on unlocking the region’s vast but underutilized potential. Vice President Shettima encouraged the SSDC to prioritize economic diversification through Special Economic Zones (SEZs), agro-processing, SME support, and human capital development in education and health.

Other areas of focus discussed included skills acquisition, youth empowerment, regional security, and critical infrastructure projects, which the Vice President described as essential for achieving inclusive growth.
The Vice President expressed confidence in Ms. Akpabio’s leadership, noting that her vision aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for accelerated regional and national development.
In response, Ms. Akpabio reaffirmed her commitment to translating this mandate into practical outcomes.
“Our focus is on turning vision into measurable results. The South-South must emerge as a hub of opportunity and prosperity for its people,” she said.
The engagement signals stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and the SSDC to drive regional development and economic revitalization in the South-South.
