Nigeria’s Super Falcons are through to the final round of the 2024 Paris Olympics Qualifiers for the Women’s football event courtesy of a 4-0 thrashing of Ethiopia in the second leg of the second-round qualifying match at the MKO Abiola National Stadium on Tuesday.
Last week, Super Falcons played a goalless draw against the Ethiopians Addis Ababa, but a brace by Rasheedat Ajibade and one goal each from Uchenna Kanu and Asisat Oshoala ensured Nigeria scaled through to the next round with a massive 5-1 aggregate scoreline.
After missing a couple of clear chances earlier on in the game, Kanu finally opened the scoring for the Falcons just before the halftime break. Ajibade doubled the lead in the opening ten minutes of the second half before Oshoala further extended the advantage with a fine header in the 68th minute.
Barely four minutes later, Ajibade sealed the win for Nigeria thanks to an assist from Oshoala, as the Falcons hope to return to the Olympics after missing the last edition – they will play the winner of the second-round game between Cameroon and Uganda to know their opponents for the final round.
