Agatha All Along recently delivered a powerful two-episodic finale, and it was everything we expected. Agatha had a difficult journey from the very start, but she created her Coven, which consisted of some powerful witches. However, her Coven is slowly turning into a pile of dead bodies, thanks to all the deadly trials that are claiming the lives of one Witch after the other. The most recent sacrifice comes from Lilia, who heroically sacrificed herself to kill Salem Seven. The deaths of these Witches affected everyone, but now it’s time to focus on Agatha’s powerful ending and what it truly means.
The Finale’s Brilliant Start With Rio’s Conversation With Agatha
The episode picks up after Alice’s death (Episode 5), as Rio, who we now know is Lady Death, tells Alice that it’s time to go. Rio tells the Witch that she fulfilled her purpose – she’s a protection Witch, and she died protecting someone. As expected, Alice agrees and moves through the door with Death.
As Jen and Billy get to the door of the last trial, Agatha confronts Rio, who has just taken Alice. Rio makes it pretty clear that she thinks of Billy as an “Abomination,” and it was wrong of Agatha to distract Rio from the boy. Rio then tells Agatha that she’s on the road of Trials with “another woman’s son.” Interestingly, Rio also confirms that Agatha has been lying about her son’s death from the very start. But Agatha says that she’s comfortable with the lies but not with the “awful” truth.
Rio also says that Billy’s quest to find Tommy, his brother, at the end of the road is a meaningless endeavor, to which Agatha also agrees. Billy has taken someone else’s body to reincarnate, and even if Tommy is there at the end of the road, Rio can’t let Tommy do the same.
Agatha Offers to Help Rio to Save Herself
Rio clearly wants to take Billy, but why doesn’t she? Well, Rio knows that if Billy dies, he’ll simply reincarnate himself. So, he has to come to Rio willingly, and that’s when Agatha agrees to help. She assures Rio that she’ll convince Billy to let go, but only if Death spares her. Rio then tears a hole in reality, and Agatha uses that to go where Jen and Billy are waiting for her.
The trio now moves on towards their final trial, but guess what? They are exactly where they started their journey. In fact, their shoes are still on the floor. Frustrated and anxious that they’ll have to start their journey all over again, Billy decides to put on his shoes. He left his shows out of respect for the road, which he doesn’t do anymore. As soon as he does that, Billy, Jen, and Agatha get teleported to a room. The room is full of Grow lights, which are fading out one by one, indicating that it’s sort of a timer.
Jen Gets What She Desires
During their time in the room, everyone learns that it was Agatha who prevented Jen from using her magic. Apparently, Agatha did spells for money back in 1920, and she had to put a binding spell on Jen because of a client she was working for. But at the time, she didn’t even know who she was putting that spell on. Regardless, having that knowledge, Jen uses Agatha’s hair to perform an unbinding spell and get her magic back. Jen now disappears from the room – she got what she wanted from the road, so she completed the trial.
Agatha’s Heart to Heart With Billy
Agatha knows now that she can get out of here after getting what she desires the most – power. Billy has powers, so she asks the boy to “juice” her up. However, Billy knows that he’ll be left alone in the room if he gives Agatha what she wants. At this point, Agatha reveals that what Billy wants from the trial is wrong – he won’t find Tommy at the end of the road, and even if he is there, Tommy will have to steal someone else’s body to reincarnate himself.
Agatha now asks Billy to close his eyes and remember his last moments with Tommy in the Westview. She asks Billy to block the voice of her mother’s world collapsing on focus on his brother’s breathing. Agatha then asks Billy to find Tommy a place to go. Billy then sees a boy who’s thrown into a river as a prank but is drowning.
Agatha’s Fight With Death
Now, Agatha is left alone in the room, and when the final light fades out, Agatha takes out the locket, which has Nicholas Scratch’s hair. She remembers her son and says to herself, “Out of death, life.” She puts her son’s hair in the soil and a flower blooms. Then, out of nowhere, soil and rocks start falling from the floor. Agatha is able to get out of the room just in time, but she sees Rio sitting atop her home in Westview.
Agatha says that she got the kid out, but that wasn’t the deal, was it? To save herself from Death, Agatha had to convince Billy to willingly offer himself up to Rio. Now, Rio attacks Agatha so that she can take her instead. But that’s when Billy Maximoff appears in his Wiccan form. He offers some of his powers to Agatha so she can fight Rio for a little while.
However, nobody can defeat Death, so after seeing Agatha on the verge of death, Billy offers himself up, and shockingly, Agatha has no problem with it; in fact, she seems happy. However, before Agatha leaves, Billy asks her if that is how her son died. He implied that Agatha may have offered her son power. But that hits something inside of Agatha, and she turns back and kisses Rio, which leads to her death. Billy, broken up after Agatha’s demise, gets back to his town. Billy thinks about what happened, and that’s when he sees someone standing behind him.
Agatha’s Past Revealed
In 1750, we see that Agatha was pregnant with her son, Nicholas. However, she was about to lose him because Rio was standing in front to take him. Agatha asks Rio to spare her boy, but Death says that she can only offer some time. Nicky then comes out all healthy, and Agatha spends some beautiful years with her son. She even tries to teach him witchcraft, but deep inside, Agatha knows that one day, Rio will come for him. That day finally comes, and Death takes Agatha’s son away from her.
Agatha’s Newly-Grown Thirst For Power
After losing her son, Agatha grows power-hungry. She lures other witches by making them think that she can open the Witches Road’s gate. When the gate doesn’t open, other witches often attack Agatha, and she absorbs their powers instead. She does that for countless years and kills several witches just like that. However, something different happens with the latest coven. Just like before, the gate wasn’t supposed to open, and she was supposed to absorb every other witch’s powers. However, the gate did open, and that’s when we realized that it was Billy who created that door unknowingly.
Back to the present, we see Agatha’s ghost telling this tale to Billy. Billy wonders if he opened the door, then maybe he is the one responsible for everyone’s death. But Agatha says that, in a way, he saved some lives. That’s because Agatha would have killed everyone if that gate didn’t appear.
Billy and Agatha’s New Quest
Billy, still feeling guilty, tries to recite a spell to send Agatha to the afterlife. He doesn’t want Agatha to roam the world as a ghost for eternity. But Agatha doesn’t want to leave; she isn’t ready to face her son. At this point, Billy fully understands what Agatha is feeling, so he stops. At the same time, Agatha has again found heart, so she agrees to accompany Billy on his quest to find Tommy.
