The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has finally accredited Horticulture and Animal Health Technology courses in Niger State College of Agriculture, Mokwa, Niger State.
This came three months after THE WHISTLER reported on how hundreds of graduates from the college could not be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) due to non-accreditation of their courses.
Mr. Yusuf Doma, the institution’s registrar, confirmed the accreditation to THE WHISTLER: “Yes, I can confirm that the two courses were accredited.”
The affected students also confirmed that the courses have now been granted full accreditation.
In a letter dated April 7th, and seen by THE WHISTLER, NBTE said the two unaccredited courses were granted full accreditation effective from April 7, 2025.
The letter reads, “With reference to the accreditation exercise carried out by the Board to your institution from 20th in 23rd, February, 2025, I am directed to inform you that the Board has granted accreditation to the under listed programmes offered by your institution for a period of five (5) years with effect from 7th April, 2025 (2024/2025).
“Admission of students into the accredited programme must not exceed the class streams indicated above. The accredited programme will be due for another visit by 2030”.
“It is the responsibility of the institution to invite the board to carry out the accreditation exercise when due as failure to do so within the specified period will disqualify it from further admission into the programme”.
Speaking to THE WHISTLER, one of the affected students from the department of Animal Health Technology, Abdullahi Mohammed, expressed excitement at the development.
“We are all happy to share this news with you. We thank THE WHISTLER for the support in extending our tears to the right audience, and we’re hopeful that the programme will stay longer,” he told our reporter.
Another students who spoke to THE WHISTLER confirmed that NBTE officials visited the institution earlier in February to inspect facilities of the affected departments.
Hamza Abdullahi, also a graduate of Animal Health Technology, said: “Honestly, I’m so excited and overjoyed after I heard about the News. I have missed opportunities due to the lack of accreditation of my course.”
Fatima Abubakar, the spokesperson of the National Board of Technical Education, was unreachable. Text messages sent to her phone were not acknowledged.
