After 26 years Mortal Kombat 1 finally brings back the worst line in video game movie history

From CGI that made even the 8 year old diehard Mortal Kombat fan in me cringe to poor use of iconic characters and story that makes zero sense, 1997’s Mortal Kombat Annihilation was a terrible movie for a lot of reasons. Standing atop the multitude of so-bad-it’s-good moments, however, has to be early vocal interaction between Kitana and her newly resurrected mother, Sindel.

Ed Boon and his team at NetherRealm Studios probably try not to think about Annihilation too often, but the internet has NEVER allowed them to forget Sindel’s legendary bad line. It seems here as we prepare to celebrate Annihilation’s 26 year anniversary, (it released on November 21) NRS has finally given in and made a direct reference to the quote in Mortal Kombat 1.

For those who haven’t seen the film, the opening sees Shao Khan invade Earthrealm with his horde of Outworld fighters and minions as the heroes of the first MK film stand in horror.

Princess Kitana is surprised to see her previously dead mother appear, and proclaims “Mother… you’re alive!” Sindel smirks at her daughter and immediately retorts back “Too bad you… will die!”

Character intro interactions have been a prominent part of Mortal Kombat for a few years and installments now, and as much as fans have hoped to hear queen Sindel utter those (in)famous words, she hasn’t… until the release of Mortal Kombat 1’s very
first DLC character: Omni-Man.

In the Omni-Man vs. Sindel pre-fight dialogue, the former talks some trash about keeping the latter and her daughters as pets. With a similar cadence to her delivery in Annihilation, Sindel responds in the best way possible:
