Chairman of Cross River State Table Tennis Association and Canaan Table Tennis Club, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, has congratulated table tennis veteran, Offiong Edem, for becoming the first athlete to earn Nigeria a medal at the 13th African Games after finishing in top three in the women’s singles event of the tournament taking place at the Accra International Conference Centre, Accra, Ghana.
Orok Duke who currently represents Cross River on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) echoes the state’s pride in Offiong Edem’s achievement.
Having mentored the table tennis superstar in the early days of her career, Duke said Edem’s impressive outing at the African Games serves as an inspiration not just to aspiring athletes, but to all Nigerians, demonstrating the power of hard work and determination.

“We stand united behind you and Team Nigeria, cheering for continued success in Accra!” he echoed.
The Spain-based table tennis star played her best matches in the last 16 and quarter-final when she defeated the Alhodaby twins – Marwa and Mariam to join the league of medalists in the women’s singles of the games.
Set up against defending champion Dina Meshref of Egypt in the semifinal, Edem caved in with 4-0 defeat to settle for a bronze medal just like she did at the 2019 edition in Rabat, Morocco.
