The Abia State Government has announced a new date for the resumption of primary and secondary schools for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Schools across the state will now reopen on Wednesday, September 23, 2024.
Commissioner for information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced the new resumption date during a press briefing following this week’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, presided over by State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti,
Prince Kanu explained that the decision to shift the resumption date from the earlier scheduled September 16th was made to accommodate a public holiday that coincides with that day, in observance of a Muslim celebration.
“Schools in Abia State will now resume for the 2024/2025 academic year on Wednesday, the 23rd of September, 2024.
“The shift from the earlier date of September 16th is due to a public holiday that falls on that day, which is a Muslim public holiday,” Kanu stated.
The change aims to ensure smooth operations as the new academic year begins, while respecting the religious observances of the state’s diverse population.
