The Commissioner of Police Abia State Command CP Danladi Isa has dismissed three officers for their involvement in kidnapping and extortion of civilians.
The three dismissed officers identified as Force No. 501356 Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi (attached to the Area Command, Aba), Force No. 511844 Corporal James Daniel (attached to the Department of Operations, Umuahia), and Force No. 511853 Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka (attached to Eziama Division).
A statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on Friday announced that the dismissal takes immediate effect from February 7, 2025.
The statement explained that these officers were dismissed for discreditable conduct, specifically conspiracy, abduction, and extortion of unsuspecting victims. They will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution, along with the civilian accomplices involved.
On January 29, 2025, the officers and two civilians were apprehended by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi after being found armed with an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.
They had conspired to hire a minibus, abducted several civilians along the Port Harcourt Expressway, threatened and extorted money from them, and demanded additional funds from their families for their release.
An investigation and orderly room trial initiated by the Command confirmed the officers’ involvement in unprofessional conduct that is prejudicial to discipline and unbecoming of members of the Nigeria Police Force, leading to their dismissal.
The Command’s Provost has retrieved their official accoutrements, and they no longer serve as members of the force.
