The Abia State Government has reiterated its dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment aimed at unlocking economic growth, attracting investments, and supporting entrepreneurs and small business owners.
This was emphasized by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, while declaring open a two-day stakeholders’ meeting for the 2024 Business Enabling Reforms Action Plan (BERAP) held at the JAAC Building, Umuahia.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, Engr. Emetu highlighted the importance of the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) project, describing it as a testament to the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that promotes sustainable development, economic diversification, and social inclusivity.
He stated, “By developing actionable reform through a collaborative approach, we aim to align our state’s policies and practices with global best standards and address the unique challenges faced by businesses operating in Abia.”
He further added that “Today’s gathering brings together a diverse group of multi-sectoral stakeholders who each play an indispensable role in shaping the future of our business environment.
“Your presence here underscores the shared commitment to advancing our economy through innovative reforms and collaborative solutions.
“As we deliberate and draft the 2024 BERAP, let us remember the critical role of this document in setting the tone for the state’s economic landscape in the coming year.”
As Chairman of the Abia State Ease of Doing Business Council, Engr. Emetu urged participants to engage actively, provide practical insights, and ensure that the final document is both comprehensive and implementable. He assured stakeholders of the government’s unwavering support in implementing the outcomes of the meeting, noting, “Together, we will continue to position Abia State as a beacon of progress, a hub of innovation, and a destination for enterprise.”
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Ease of Doing Business and Secretary of the Ease of Doing Business Council, Barr. Agbonma Jennifer Uka-Obasi, praised Governor Alex Otti for creating a conducive environment and providing basic infrastructure to support business growth in the state.
The event featured a keynote presentation by Chief Calistus Chukwu on “Ensuring Compliance and Effective Implementation of SABER Verification Protocol for Business Enabling Reforms.” A subsequent interactive session, including a Q&A segment, drew the participation of government officials, stakeholders from the Ease of Doing Business Council, and other notable personalities.
