The Abia State government has inaugurated a seven man Committee to enforce transparency in the selective process in the employment of teachers in the State to enhance the learning system.
Speaking while inaugurating the members in his office on Friday, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi noted that the policy of the current administration is focused on equity,fairness and transparency.
He further encouraged them to carry out their responsibilities without sentiments and work as a team with the technical consultant to achieve the purpose of the Governor in employing capable, efficient and knowledgeable teachers who have the necessary qualifications.
Elder Ubochi also explained that the selection process will be on merit as every applicant must partake in the exam for vetting after the online application.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Committee will begin its duties immediately and urged them to operate within the stipulated terms of reference given to them .
He expressed gratitude to Dr Alex Otti for his immeasurable passion for the education sector which has steered the need to employ more efficient teachers and allocating a whooping sum of 20% State budgetary allocation to the education sector in the state.
Responding on behalf of other Committee Members, the Chairman of the committee who is also the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board Secretary, Dr Uzoamaka Mbah, who expressed gratitude to the Governor for his immense contributions in making sure education becomes better thanked the Commissioner for finding them worthy to serve and assured him that the team would carry out its responsibilities with seriousness as well as work closely with technical consultant to realize the vision of the Governor.
The Committee has the ASUBEB Board Secretary Dr Uzoamaka Mbah as Chairman and Mrs Onyeanuna Christy from SEMB as the Secretary.
Other members were selected from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, ASUBEB and SEMB respectively.
This initiative reaffirms the state government’s commitment towards quality education for all Abia pupils and Students across the state.
