Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has flagged-off the reconstruction of the 11.5 kilometres Ntigha-Nbawsi- Umuala road in Isialangwa North LGA with a promise to complete it within one year.
Speaking at the event on Monday, Governor Otti said the road on completion would unlock the prosperity of the land and cut down the long standing barrier that has stood against the reconstruction of the road for decades as well as enhance urban-rural migration and boost Agricultural investment.
The Governor who also promised to remodel the Nsulu Games village in the same Isialangwa North LGA to create new urban centres in the State, used the medium to announce that the proposed Abia Airport Project would be flagged off very soon.
He directed the Commissioner for Works to extend the road construction from Umuelenwoha Junction to Jaja Nwachukwu’s compound which is just a kilometre away from the Junction
“This 11.45 kilometer stretch of road, would on completion in the next 12 months, bring new life into the economies of the communities along this corridor and stimulate job creation through the expansion of opportunities in agriculture, food and beverage processing, hospitality, retail trade and real estate.
“This is more than just a regular road project. It is a statement of our determination to right the wrongs of the past and effectively remove the shackles that have held down the growth and potential of this part of the states,” he noted.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Don Oti said the road was upgraded from a Trunk C to Trunk B road. He highlighted the economic importance of the road which commences from Enugu-Port Harcourt express way by Ntigha, traversing from Nsulu to Ururuka road.
He added that it would have solar powered street lights and assured that the Ministry of Works would supervise the work to ensure its delivery in time.
“The Ntigha Mbausi-Umuola road has a length of 11.5 kilometers. It is an asphaltic concrete road with a carriageway width of 7 meters and 1.5 meter wide shoulders on either side. The shoulders also are in asphaltic concrete.
“The pavement consists of 200 millimeter thick approved laterite sub-base, 200 millimeter thick approved stone base, 60 millimeter thick asphaltic concrete binder course and 40 millimeter thick asphaltic concrete wearing course.
“Furthermore, drainages will be provided where necessary as well as access slabs at required sections. Wide road signs, roadway markings, collaborative poles and solar street lights will also be provided,” he said.
