Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed has assumed office as the new Director of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Emergency Management Department (FEMD).

Mohammed’s appointment follows the redeployment of the former Acting Director General, Mrs. Florence Dawon Wenegieme.

This was contained in a statement signed on Thursday by FEMD’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa.

During the handover ceremony, Engr Mohammed emphasised the importance of diligence and transparency among the staff, and urged them to remain committed to their duties. He called for cooperation within the department, stating that anyone unwilling to work with him was free to seek redeployment.

“Don’t forget to tell us when we are going wrong and also when we are doing the right thing,” Mohammed stated, while highlighting his open-door policy.

He also praised Mrs. Wenegieme for her contributions to the development of FEMD, and acknowledged her dedication and professionalism during her tenure.

Earlier in her remark, Mrs. Wenegieme commended the FEMD staff, attributing her successes to their unwavering support. She appealed to them to extend the same cooperation to her successor, to ensure a smooth transition and continued progress within the department.

Members of the management staff who spoke at the event described Mrs. Wenegieme as a dedicated professional committed to the growth of FEMD.

Before his new appointment, Engr Mohammed served as the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation within FEMD.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in Asset Development and Control from the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Engr Mohammed is a registered member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NschE), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Society of Civil Engineers (NSCE), and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
