A.K.I. was apparently nerfed significantly before she was released as a DLC fighter in Street Fighter 6

Despite being a DLC fighter, A.K.I. is currently observed to be one of the weaker characters in Street Fighter 6 overall. Though this makes A.K.I. an unpopular pick, Broski is one of the players that has been pushing the character’s meta.

During one of his streams, Broski was told about a documentary that showcased Capcom developers messing around with a prerelease build of A.K.I. in Street Fighter 6. As it turns out, A.K.I. has been significantly changed since the footage was recorded.

Something that was immediately noticeable is how A.K.I.’s projectile follow up actually caused the opponent to go into a crumple. Needless to say, A.K.I.’s combo game was stronger than what it is now.

Broski also noted that it was easier to combo into A.K.I.’s Cruel Fate special in more situations. Additionally, it appears that Cruel Fate could even cause a ground bounce against poisoned, airborne opponents, further extending combos.

A.K.I. even had access to an Overdrive special that we’ve never seen before, which is reminiscent of F.A.N.G’s Rolling Kick follow up after Coward Crouch in Street Fighter 5. Like F.A.N.G’s Rolling Kick, this Overdrive special appeared to be advantageous on block as A.K.I. can still be observed pressing buttons after the opponent blocks the attack.

Finally, it’s also interesting to note that, just by looking at the inputs, A.K.I. was at one time a charge character rather than a motion character. Check it all out in the video below:
