Bournemouth recorded a shocking 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Cherries earned their first-ever win over the defending champions to continue their rich form after beating Arsenal last weekend.
The hosts started on a bright note forcing Ederson into two saves in the opening five minutes.
Semenyo gave them the lead in the ninth minute with a superb finish from a Milos Kerkez’s cut-back.
Manchester City struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, failing to muster any shot on target.
Evanilson added the second goal after the hour mark to set Bournemouth on their way to an historic victory.
Josko Gvardiol scored a consolation goal for Manchester City in the 82nd minute but the hosts held on to grab the maximum points, which moved them to the eighth spot on the table.
The defeat leaves Manchester City in the second position, two points behind Liverpool.
Liverpool came from behind to defeat Brighton 2-1 thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo, and Mohammed Salah.
Nottingham Forest recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over West Hame United, while Ipswich Town played out a 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
Bournemouth coach, Andoni Iraola was full of praise for his players following their impressive performance to earn their first-ever win over Manchester City.
He said: “It’s kind of similar. When you beat Real Madrid, it’s kind of similar. You know you have to be at your best level and wait for them to not have their best day.
“We had to feel the pressure and it was tight at the end.
“I’m very pleased, one thing is to beat City but another is to play better. We played with no fear, tried to press when we could and defend when we had to.
“It was dangerous in the last 10 minutes. You don’t enjoy that at all. There was so much pressure.”
Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola admitted that Bournemouth were the better side and they deserved the victory.
He said: “We knew we couldn’t match the intensity. We have talked about it. It was an open game. We had chances at the end but I congratulate Bournemouth for the victory.
“The 50-50 balls in the middle, the duels, they play this type of game. They are so aggressive. They had six-seven days to prepare. They have physicality and speed, but you have to win these types of situations. And they had chances.
“Ederson made a good save. We had real good moments at the start of the second half and after that it was difficult to swallow as we were good. After we scored we had momentum and chances but couldn’t score [again].
Up next for Bournemouth is a trip to Brentford next weekend, while Manchester City have a Champions League date with Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday.
