Manchester United’s injury crisis has worsened, as another star player has been ruled out.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will now miss a staggering nine players for his first game as interim manager this evening.

United face Leicester at Old Trafford in the League cup and have only won one of their last eight games.

The last time out in this competition, United thrashed Barnsley 7-0 at home.

Such a scoreline will be difficult to replicate, as a crucial first team player has picked up a new injury.

Christian Eriksen Suffers New Injury

Christian Eriksen has pulled out of tonight’s game with an unknown issue.

He is replaced in the matchday squad by academy star Jayce Fitzgerald, who was called up late this afternoon.

The midfielder was set to start for the Under-21s tonight against PSV but was promoted to the first team by Van Nistelrooy.

Joining Christian Eriksen in United’s long absentee list are two other midfielders.

Mason Mount has been out for a month with a head injury, while Kobbie Mainoo will not return for a couple of weeks.

United’s only senior midfield options are Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

It would be unsurprising to see Toby Collyer in the squad again, as he made his second appearance for the Red Devils in their last League cup game in September.

Dan Gore was also included in the travelling squad against Porto in the Europa League at the start of the month.

He filled in for the suspended Fernandes, but did not feature in the match.

Ahead of a huge Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday, fans can expect rotation in the lineup and maybe even some opportunities handed to academy players.
